What changed

Cubroid and mBot2 are eligible for the WRO Coding Competition

The WRO Coding Competition — officially known as the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) — has confirmed that both the Cubroid kit and the mBot2 robot are now eligible for entry. If your South African school already has Cubroid and/or mBot2, this is a big win — you can now confidently prepare learners to take part in a globally recognised robotics event using the kits you already own.

Before

Uncertainty around approved hardware

Schools often hesitated to enter major competitions because of uncertainty around approved hardware.

Now

What you already have can take you all the way to WRO

This confirmation removes that barrier and makes it easier for more schools to participate without needing to buy new equipment.

About the competition

What is the WRO Coding Competition?

The World Robot Olympiad is one of the world's leading educational robotics competitions, bringing together learners from across the globe to solve challenges through robotics, coding, creativity, and teamwork. It's a powerful platform for South African learners to apply classroom skills to real-world problems and showcase their ability on an international stage.

Run by the World Robot Olympiad Association, the competition includes several categories covering different age groups and skill levels, from first-time robot builders to advanced student engineers. Teams design, build, and program their own robots, then test them against a themed challenge that changes every season. Because the WRO Coding Competition is organised nationally before teams progress to international events, schools that start local can grow into a genuinely global opportunity for their learners.
